How Viking Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Viking makes solid equipment, but nothing that lives outdoors beside the Pacific escapes the salt air forever. Here’s what we actually see on Viking gates in Laguna Beach, and what we do about it.

• Viking F-1 and G-5 control boards with corroded relay contacts. The boards are well built, but the relay contacts are not sealed against coastal humidity the way the rest of the board is. • Undersized wire run from the house to the gate. This is the expensive one, and it’s the one nobody tells you about until the motor burns out. Viking low-voltage openers pull real current, and a long driveway in Laguna Beach means a long wire run. If the original installer used 16-gauge low-voltage lighting wire to save fifty dollars, the opener runs hot, works hard, and dies early.
