Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Laguna Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welding and fabrication parts for Laguna Beach gate systems, with most welded bracket repairs and reinforcement jobs running $225 to $480 installed, depending on the specific failure and how much of the existing steel is still sound. We keep the common Ghost Controls hinge brackets, post mounts, and gate frame repair plates on the truck, so most Laguna Beach calls are one visit, start to finish. The way owners usually discover this problem is a gate that starts dragging, a bracket that’s cracked through at the weld, or an opener that’s straining because the mounting point has finally let go after years of salt air working on it.

Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent gate service company, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. We work on their openers every week because around here, they’re one of the more common brands on coastal driveways.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls builds their opener line around a few core series: the TSS1 and TDS1 single and dual swing gate openers, the TSL1 slide gate opener, and the newer TSS1XP and AXDP heavy-duty variants. The welding and fabrication work we do covers all of them, because the failure point is rarely inside the opener itself. It’s the steel the opener bolts to.

The compatibility gotcha most Laguna Beach owners hit is this: Ghost Controls post brackets and hinge brackets are sized for the opener arm’s throw, and they’re not interchangeable across all models. The TSS1 uses a different post pivot bracket than the AXDP, and mixing them changes the arm geometry enough that the gate binds or the opener faults out on an obstruction code. If you’re ordering a bracket yourself, match the stamped part number on the old one. If the stamp is rusted off, measure the pivot hole spacing and the arm collar diameter. When a customer calls us, we identify the part on site and match it before any welding starts.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Ghost Controls’ factory brackets are zinc-plated, which works fine inland but starts giving up after three or four years of direct coastal exposure in Laguna Beach. We often fabricate a heavier replacement from powder-coated or hot-dipped steel, which costs a bit more in material but lasts significantly longer within a mile of the water. We’ll always give you both options and let you decide.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags or scrapes at the latch end. The top hinge weld or the hinge itself has started to crack, usually at the heat-affected zone right next to the original weld. The gate is now hanging lower on one side, and the opener is fighting that extra drag.
  • The opener arm wobbles where it mounts to the post. The post bracket bolts are still tight, but the bracket itself is flexing because a fracture has formed around the base. Every cycle the opener runs, that crack grows a little more.
  • You can see rust staining running down from a bracket or hinge. That orange streak usually means moisture got trapped between the bracket and the gate frame or post. By the time you see the stain, the metal underneath has been losing thickness for a while.
  • The opener trips an obstruction code or reverses mid-travel on calm days. Ghost Controls openers monitor resistance. A binding hinge or a cracked bracket increases that resistance intermittently, and the board reads it as an obstruction. The problem isn’t the board. It’s the steel underneath.
  • You hear a pop or a metallic creak when the gate moves, especially at the hinge points. A single sharp pop is often a weld finally letting go. A creak that comes and goes is usually a crack that’s opening and closing under the gate’s weight. Both are signs the metal has exceeded its fatigue life in coastal air.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work in Laguna Beach, most jobs land between $225 and $480 installed. On the lower end, a single hinge bracket repair or a small reinforcement plate runs $225 to $300. A full hinge replacement with heavier fabricated plates, or welding a cracked gate frame rail back together, typically runs $350 to $480. If both hinges and the post brackets need rebuilt, that pushes toward the top of the range.

Every quote includes the steel, the welding consumables, the corrosion treatment, and the labor. We quote the full price before any work starts, and we don’t add charges at the end. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and every bracket we install: if it’s not right, we come back and make it right, in writing, no argument. Victor Salinas grew up near the Laguna Canyon Road corridor and he’s been welding gates on these coastal hillsides long enough to know what the salt air does to mild steel, so the repairs we make are built for this specific climate, not for a showroom in Phoenix.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an owner can safely check. You can look for visible cracks at the hinge and bracket welds, check for rust staining, and run the gate manually with the opener disengaged to feel for binding. Those observations help you describe the problem when you call us.

But the actual welding and bracket replacement is not a weekend project. Loading a sagging gate onto a jack, cutting out a failed hinge, and welding a new one in place while holding correct alignment is work that can seriously injure you if the gate shifts or falls. Half-ton gates don’t forgive mistakes. Beyond the safety concern, if the hinge alignment is off by a few degrees, your Ghost Controls opener will work against the new hardware until something else fails. That’s why we fix it right the first time, or we come back, simple as that. Call us at (442) 246-9347 and we’ll get it handled properly.
