If the cassette that carries the rollers is beyond saving, we fabricate a new one to match the existing BFT track spacing, because aftermarket cassettes often sit a few millimeters off and cause the gate to ride uneven and noisy.
• Broken welds where the rack attaches to the slide gate frame. BFT slide gates use a bolted or welded gear rack. The weld points take the full movement force every cycle. When a weld cracks, the gate starts jerking, and eventually the rack lifts away from the frame and the teeth strip. We grind back the old weld, re-align the rack to the pinion gear, and run a full fillet weld along each tab. This is a job a welding shop without gate experience often gets wrong, because they’ll weld it while the rack is out of alignment. On any BFT slide gate, the rack must be re-aligned before the first bead goes down, or the drive pinion will chew through the new rack within a year.
• Post fatigue on Phobos columns driven into hillside fill.
